Product description

Pneumococcal serotype‑specific capsule sugars are produced by purifying the sugar from native pneumococci strains.

Clinical relevance

Streptococcus pneumoniae expresses a number of different sugars on the cell surface. Most sugars are in the cell capsule, which defines the more than 90 different pneumococcal serotypes currently known. Capsular production is indispensable for pneumococcal virulence and is strongly anti-phagocytic in non-immune hosts.

How to use

The pneumococcal capsules can be used in immunological investigations such as antibody assays, to evaluate whether any vaccination/revaccination is desirable. The pneumococcal capsules from SSI Diagnostica Group are for research use only.
